How to Get Started with Online Classes + Telehealth PT

Online Classes & Physical Therapy How To & Tool Kit

Ready to jump into the new world of taking your Pilates or Gyrotonic® classes online but not sure where to start? Here’s everything you need to know to start having your CORE experience online during our COVID quarantine. To stay up-to-date on CORE and COVID-19, click here.

Technology

You’ll need either (1) a mobile phone with wireless earbuds and a tripod (or a creative way to prop the phone up) or (2) a computer with a video camera that you can position on your work out space.

If you are taking a private lesson, you’ll receive an invitation to a google hangout the night before your lesson. Please log into the hangout video conference (viewable in the notes section of the calendar invite) at least 5 minutes prior to your lesson to make sure you can connect and hear your instructor.

If you are taking a group class, you’ll receive an invitation to sign up for a Zoom video conference call the night before class. You will need to register for the conference from the invitation email in advance. Once you have registered in the Zoom conference, you will get a link to directly access the class. Please be sure to do the registration step in advance so you have time to trouble shoot.

Check out Jessica’s Facebook Live Video for tips on why staying active is important during these uncertain times, how to get started and skip ahead to around the 10-minute mark to see how she set up her at-home space.

How to Log Into Zoom (Group Classes Only)

For the first time you log in only:

  1. Create a free Zoom account by going to zoom.com. You will have to enter your name and email address and then go back to your email to click an “activate account link”.

  2. Once you have activated your account from email, you will be prompted to create a password and log in.

After you’ve created your account:

  1. You will receive a meeting invitation from CORE.

  2. Click on the link in the email that reads “Register in advance for this meeting.”

  3. You will be taken to a registration link. Enter your name and email and click the “I am not a robot” link.

  4. Once you submit the registration form you will receive a second confirmation email that will allow you to add the meeting to your calendar.

  5. To access the meeting, click the link at the bottom of the registration page to join. (Note, if you register in advance, you will have to repeat this step to access the meeting at the time of class.)

  6. If you have never used Zoom, you will be prompted to download the app. Once you complete the download, you will be automatically entered into the meeting. All attendees will be able to see and hear you.

  7. Privacy controls: If you wish to listen only, click on the “stop video” button in the lower left side of your screen. If you want to mute yourself, click the “mute” button with the microphone icon, also on the lower left. If you want to submit a question, please do so via the “chat” option on the lower right side of the screen.

How to Join a Google Hangout (Private Lessons Only)

  1. When we book your appointment, you will receive an invitation email.

  2. Open the email and click “yes” at the top of the email to confirm that you will attend the meeting.

  3. When it is time to start your appointment, click the blue link that starts with “meet.google.com” under the “Join Hangouts Meet” line. You will need to use the Google Chrome browser to access your Google Hangout. You do not need a Gmail account to access a Google Hangout.

  4. If you want to use wireless earbuds to listen to the session (instead of your computer) you can either connect them via Bluetooth to your computer or  use the “join by phone” dial in option. If you have both the webinar and the join by phone meeting running, you will need to mute your computer audio.

  5. When you click into the meeting, you will get a popup screen that shows you on video and gives you a green button to click that says “join meeting”.

  6. If you want to mute yourself, you will have controls at the bottom of the page.

Google Hangouts How To - FOR PRIVATE AND DUET APPOINTMENTS:

Equipment

Each of our instructors has a basic equipment pack at their home to use while teaching. It includes a mat, a magic circle, hand weights, a theraband, a foam roller and a ball. We have set up links to Amazon for each of these items so you can be prepared at home. We also have items you might need for self-care if you choose to use telehealth physical therapy during our hiatus from our space. If you’re not sure what to have on hand, the bare minimum is a mat (preferably doubled if it is a traditional yoga mat), and you can discuss specific needs with your teacher.
