June Pilates Principle: Breath

Starting in January, CORE's teaching team has been picking an intention or theme for our sessions each month. For June, our theme has been one of the key Pilates principles: breath

Sometimes in our fast-paced world, we don't take the opportunity to fully inhale and exhale. At the start of your next session, take a minute to close your eyes and just breathe fully. This will help draw your focus to your practice. Then use that breath to guide your movement. It’s also nice to emphasize decompressing your belly completely during exhalation to help train the abs to flatten to work. This will help facilitate core support and intensify movement.

As Joseph Pilates said, Breathing is the first act of life and the last. Our very life depends on it.”
